Based on the rich academic resources and scientific research achievements of department of Art & Design, the Research Institute of Art and Design has the advantages in high level research and advanced equipments, and has become an institution which incorporates design, scientific research and education and provides design practice and applications. The aim is to push forward interaction between the education of art and design and social practice, promote the transform from academic achievements to the society, provide a platform for design students, take advantages of the combination of art and science, and host academic activities in order to promote the development of art & design subject in our university.

     At present, there are over twenty design staffs in research institute of art and design, with seven high rank and middle rank professionals, and have many advanced model making equipments, design workstations and software. We take advantage of computer aided design in design projects, and provide design and consultancy services in products design, visual communication, interior design and fashion design.

     Research Institute of Ceramic Art is a branch of Innovation Research Center of Ceramic Science and Technology of Foshan University. The Research Institute replies mainly on the rich academic resources and scientific research achievements of program of ceramic design in department of Art & Design. There are high level research and advanced equipments, advanced model making equipments, design workstations and software. Many high rank ceramic professionals and designer are working for the institute.

     The aim of the institute is to push forward interaction between the education of ceramic design and social practice, promote the transform from academic achievements to society, provide a platform for ceramic design students, take advantages of the combination of art and science, and host academic activities in order to promote the development of industrial design and ceramic design subject in our university.

     In addition to teaching, teachers of the School are actively engaged in academic research. In recent years, they have chaired and accomplished 3 projects of the State Social Science Funds, 4 Planned Social Science Projects of Guangdong Province, 1 education innovation project from the State Education Ministry, 1 New Century education innovation project of Guangdong Province, and many other research projects. Simultaneously, they have published 26 monologues, edited or co-edited 25 textbooks, published 265 papers (99 of which are published in authoritative or core journals) and more than 60 papers on education innovation, covering journals such as Literature review, Literature Heritage, Foreign Literature Review, Foreign Literature, Academic Research, Foreign Literature Research and Works Contending. What's more, many of these papers have been re-carried totally or partially in Xinhua Digest and the Photocopied Material Journal of the People's University.
