full-time comprehensive university by merging the uuuniversity's predecessor, Foshan University (built on its 1950s origins), with Foshan Agriculture & Animal
Husbandry College. The uuniversity
has two campuses, one in Foshan Chancheng district, and the other in Nanhai
district, covering a land area of 141.22 Hectares.
The University is located in the
downtown area of Foshan; the business
centre of the city is within 10-15 minutes walk. Bus stops stand at both the
front and back gates of the university.


Founded
in Jin Dynasty (AD215-316) and was given the
name in Tang Dynasty
(AD628), is a famous cultural city
with a
long history. It was one of the ancient famous cities,
well
known at home and abroad for its handicraft industry.
It was
also the biggest commodities terminal, listed as one
of the
“Four Terminals” in China (Beijing in
the North,
Foshan in the South, Suzhou in the East and Hankou
in the
West).
Geographic
Location
Foshan is located at the centre of Guangdong
Province, the inland of Pearl River Delta,
within north latitude 22°38’ to 23°34’ and east longitude 112°22’ and 113°23’.
It is adjacent to Guangzhou at the
east, the capital city of the province, about 100 km to Macao and Hong Kong.
Climate
Foshan City is close to the sea, with most of the area located at
the south of the tropic region, where the climatic type belongs to subtropical
seasonal wind humid climate, with annual average temperature at 22.1℃ and rainfall of 1600-2000ml.
Population
The total population of Foshan is 3.3585 million, including
0.8008 million city residents. Foshan
is a famous homeland of overseas Chinese, with more than 1 million living
overseas, including 0.6 million living in Hong
Kong and Macao.
Convenient
Transportation
To Guangzhou: there is shuttle bus to GZ
every 15 minutes from 7:00 am-9:00 pm at Foshan bus station; alternatively, 15
minutes by underground to be accessed in year 2005.
To Hong Kong: the ferry costing 140RMB;
Shuttle bus costing 160RMB available every day at the downtown; thea train ticket to HK costing
220 RMB.

Under the
direct supervision of Foshan University
are 7 schools as well as 2 dependent schools: Literature & Art School,
Political Science & Law School, Science School, Mechatronics &
Information Engineering School, Biological Science School, Business School,
International School and Nanhai School.
The
university has been developing into a well-structured, multidiscipline
university with a full set of specialties in Social Arts, Law, Sciences,
Engineering, Agriculture, Business and Management.

International School
The International
School is the functional institution of international
collaboration or cooperation relations of the university.
The

It also provides Chinese language support
course for those without certain mastery of Chinese. Having finished the
language program and passed HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), the students can
transfer to his bachelor degree program subsequently.
Supported by other schools of the
university, the International School welcomes overseas and foreign students to
study or do research work in our school on a short term basis.
The International School’s goal is to become
a window for spreading Chinese culture and the spirit of Foshan University by turning out students with both a good command
of English and solid professional knowledge.

three departments and four specialities: Chinese
Language and Literature in the Chinese department, English Language and Literature in the English Department of, Interior Design and Packing Design in the Art Design Department.

has offered South East Asian and Management course work and research for three
month to the
MBA students from Staffordshire University each year since
1995.
In addition, an
international workshop program with Markische Fachhochschule lserlohn, Germany
and other six universities from the U. S. A., the U.K. and other six countries
has been under way since 1997.

do I apply?

Entry
Qualification
Any one who holds a
high school graduation certificate can apply to Foshan University.
How Do I Apply?Enrolment Policy
Foshan University takes a bi-seasonal enrolment policy. There are two
ways to enter either the pre-university program or bachelor’s degree program of
Foshan University.
1) Enrolment
without examination
Any high school
graduates with a relatively high level of Chinese proficiency (including
reading, writing and listening ability), recommended by Chinese embassies,
consulates or
charged affairs abroad or leaders of ethnic Chinese communities,
can apply directly to the International Office of Foshan University, or apply through
local Enrolment Affairs Office of Foshan
University, and will be subject to enrolment without examination according
to their academic performance in the middle school.
2) Enrolment by
examination
High school
graduates with a relatively low degree of Chinese proficiency who apply to
bachelor’s degree programs are required to take the HSK test of China (the
Chinese Proficiency Test) and reach C level.

Length of Courses
International
students normally study for 4 years full-time for a Bachelor’s degree. If the
students do not get the required credit within 4 years, extended study will be
needed for fulfilment.
Assessment
Bachelor Degree
programs have fairly regular assessment including examinations, coursework and
projects or dissertations. Your final results will usually depend on your marks
both for end of year and course examinations and other tests, coursework and
project work.
Tuition and Fee
1) Tuition fee:
USD2500 per academic year
2) Accommodation
Fee: around USD1500 per academic year not including air-conditioning
electricity bill for a single study bedroom.
3) Expenses on
books, assistant teaching apparatus, food, students’ association fee, medical
insurance and clothing are to be self-borne.

Language and Textbooks
Most of the
courses are delivered in Chinese (mandarin). Some of the courses for junior and
senior students are delivered both in English and Chinese. Textbooks are most
in Chinese or Chinese with English translation.
Credit System
Foshan University, following the international practice, adopts a
standard credit system.
Board and Lodging
There are
students' dormitories on campus. Each dormitory is about 15 square meters, each
provided with beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, air-conditioner and toilet.
There are several
students' dining halls for students to choose. Usually the expense on food is
about RMB 500 Yuan per month.
Recreation and Sports Facilities
The students'
activity centre provides an ideal place for students to hold various recreation
activities. Under the students' union there are over 30 15 clubs and associations. The university
Gymnasium is a multi-functional complex for competitions. Besides, the
university also has a standard stadium for track and field events, courts for
basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis and badminton and one swimming
pool as well.
Medical Facilities
The school clinic
provides medical service to the staff and the students. Many
Grade-A hospitals can be easily reached in the city.
Students enjoy the
basic medical care during their stay in school. They are also required to buy the
medical insurance according to the state regulations.
